DC and Marvel both have a fantastic set of superheroes behind their belt, many of which already have movies behind their names. This time it’s DC that’s dishing out a new hero as we see here a trailer for one of their main heroes: Hal Jordan, a member of the Green Lantern Corps.
As a character in the comics, Hal Jordan was the first human to be introduced to the GL Corps and has been heralded as being the greatest Green Lantern of all time. He is also a founding member of the JLA, or in full: The Justice League of America.
The trailer begins with Ryan Reynolds seemingly being Ryan Reynolds. Which is a good thing if you ask me because the guy is great as … Ryan Reynolds … Anyway, a few seconds in to the trailer we see that his character, Hal Jordan, is a jetfighter. His plane experiences an emergency situation forcing Hal to eject. Once landed, he comes across a green object that crashes. Inside we find an alien wearing a familiar green suit. This alien is Abin Sur, who gives Hal a ring, claiming that it chose him. Hal then puts on the ring and goes or is sent to another world where he has to go undergo training to become a Green Lantern. There we see characters such like Kilowog and Sinestro. For the rest of the trailer we see Hal get accustomed to his powers and his new role as defender of an entire sector, not just Earth.
This trailer is a thing of beauty as it is a tool to bring in any fan who is still on the fence about this movie. It showcases so much fan service that you might as well have given the trailer a name like: The Fan Service Corps. Whilst not only is it a fantastic way to bring in these fans, it’s also just good enough to spike the interest of those yet unaware of the character. This in turn might actually get some of these people to buy the comic books or an animated movie staring The Green Lantern.
It gave me a feeling of familiarity as I compared the trailer to the Iron Man movies. The Green Lantern seems to be like that movie in the sense that it combines humor with action and drama.
Personally I can’t wait to see this movie. Could this be the Superhero movie that we’ve been waiting for since the first Iron Man movie? I certainly hope so.
