Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the show that discusses trailers, from the facts to opinion. This time we are going to take a look at an upcoming alien invasion movie titled:
Battle: Los Angeles

The trailer begins with several slide pictures of flying saucer encounters from all over the world. Pictures that have nothing but a dark blur on them that could be anything, from a blot on the lens, a flock of birds or, indeed, an unidentified flying object. Which, by the way, is a term that could be given to any flying object that you have no knowledge about. Meaning that those “experimental aircrafts” that get mistaken for alien spaceship are in fact, UFO’s. Anyway, the trailer continues and we begin to hear a song. Sets the tone for the trailer as being a prelude to an epic struggle. Very reminiscent of a scene in We Were Soldiers where Mel Gibson leads the charge on the final Vietnamese hide-out in their particular mission.
After the music starts we get a message saying that “there are patterns that cannot be explained.” There are several messages like this in between shots of the movie, as seen in many trailers. Though here it combines very well with the music. The shots of the movie make a story of a city under attack, with the only visible sign of the attacker being missiles of sort in the sky as soldiers rush to their choppers. Following this is a shot of said helicopters in the sky, flying over a city under siege and almost completely in ruins. Most disturbingly are the CNN scenes of other cities that are under attack as well.
The music builds as the scenes become more and more personal. We now follow several soldiers that are engaging the foes that have yet to remain to be seen. Also seen is an airship carrier being destroyed, the aliens attacking tourists on a beach with missiles and at long last a shot of the alien ships. In the shadows we also get to see some of the aliens, blurred out of course. Lastly the title and text saying it’s coming in March 11, 2011.
This trailer does it job well to establish the movie to the anxiously anticipating audience . It sets up the main story as being Aliens invade and Marines draw a line and engage their enemy head on. What it also does is set up some of the fantastic graphics and action scenes that we are going to see. The graphics remind of what we saw in District 9. They are there but they aren’t ever so present as in other movies. The action scenes remind me of District 9 as well, as they are filled with action and suspense, shot competently and directed beautifully.
Helming this movie is Jonathan Liebesman, director of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. Writing it is Christopher Bertolini who wrote the screenplay for The General’s Daughter. Which is a fantastic movie if you haven’t seen it yet. Very well worth a watch as well.
If these two aren’t your cup of tea, then look no further than the actors. Seeing as it stars two amazing people that will sound more than familiar to the most of you. They are namely: Michelle Rodriguez and Aaron Eckhart. If you don’t know who they are, shame on you. Seriously, shame on you.
What do I think of this? This needs to be on your watch list. There’s a good chance this might turn out to be another Skyline, which is a huge disappointment for many already, but there’s a good chance it’ll be extremely good.
