Young Justice: Invasion
Bloodlines
Sometimes, writers do it absolutely right. And this is definitely one of those occasion. It are rare episodes like this, that define a good TV show. Many things occur during this one particular episode, all wrapped up nicely in a tight story. Relying more on the story side of it all, the episode delivers, if nothing else, promises for many good episodes to come.
Warning, spoilers follow.
The episode revolves around a brand new character, a speedster from the future. First appearing in mid-air, the speedster was inside a metal box. No, not a TARDIS. Anyways, the box falls down on to the ground, with said Speedster coming out of its inners not so long afterwards.
The box didn't appear just about anywhere. Oh, no. It appeared smack in the middle of Mount Justice. Also present there were Garfield Logan, Tim Drake and Richard Grayson. With this fantastic trio on the scene, the speedster was bound for an intro of hurtful proportions.
And who might this speedster have been? Well:
Ladies and Gentlemen, we have Bart Allen, A.K.A.: Impulse. The episode basically serves an introduction to this character. An introduction done absolutely marvelous, by the way. Throughout the episode, you find out much about who he is, what he can do, why he is who he is and why he went back to the past. And all of that in such a subtle manner, that it only becomes clear to you in the final minute of the episode. Plus, he has a cool outfit.
Luckily, Bart's arrival means the return of not one ... naaaaaht two ... but THREE other speedsters. And I almost peed my pants in glee upon seeing two of these guys again.
However, the final moments of the episode, do give us a much clearer picture of the future. One that isn't quite as super as we would want it to be. At the end of the episode, we are left wondering if Bart even changed anything. Or that the changes happen like ripples through time, one thing at a time.
The second storyline of the episode revolve around Red Arrow and Cheshire. Well, them and their adorable, little cutie pie of a baby. Honestly, Lian is just so cuuuuuuuuuuuuuute. I mean ... euh ... I AM A MAN, DAMN IT. WOMAN, MAKE ME A SANDWICH! HA. ... Hmmmmmmmmmmm. So cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute.
Anyways, Arrow and Cheshire find someone we've all been wanting to be found out of sheer curiousness of what happens next. However, that will be for an episode down the line.
Both of these heavy stories are coated in a nice layer of witty humor, that elevates the episode to even higher levels. Once again, the humor is quite subtle and very well written. Much like the dialog and the overal storyline.
Animation-wise, I only have one complaint. And that is that the main villain for the Speedsters isn't quite as impressively animated as they wanted him to be.
Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaantastic episo- Hmm, I'm starting to notice a pattern with my reviews of this series. Hell, it's worth it.
