E3 '12: The Last of Us gameplay trailer

Photobucket

Suddenly darkness. Nature sounds echo through the room. Flies zoom around, accompanied by the pleasant tsirping of birds. People running, the sound already familiar. It's The Last of Us. Not just The Last of Us. But TLOU Gameplay.

Everything that has been shown to us resembles Uncharted a lot. Walking around, using the camera, how Joel (the main character moves). It's all very familiar. Though, the design and the graphics are much better than anything we've seen for Uncharted, truth be told. It's very colorful, but subtly so. It doesn't bombard you with it like Far Cry 3 does.

Climbing is another matter entirely, as Joel isn't exactly Nathan Drake. It's definitely more sluggish, and fits in very well with the more survival nature of the game.
Character and Voice acting wise, you really get the same feeling you get with Uncharted. That these characters are alive, have personalities. From what little we've seen, I've already grown fond of Ellie, as she really keeps that innocence to her. She's in the process of growing up, and it shows.
Wait, what is that? Is that? No. No, it can't be. Is it? A lifebar! LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WE HAVE A LIFEBAR! REJOICE!

Oh, there's guys around? Combat time. Close Quarters Combat seems to be much more visceral than Uncharted, really showing how awful and necessary it is to actually kill a man. There are a lot more animations involved for taking cover, which really add to the tension. Shooting is standard fare, though bullets are a lot more scarce.
At one point, Joel runs out of ammo. And the enemy notices. So they go in to full on attack mode. What happens? Ellie comes in and throws a brick at the motherfucker like a BOSS. Probably the brick I shat upon viewing this magnificent game. Ellie also comes to your aid when you're pinned down by an enemy. She will starting stabbing some bitches if you get pinned. My god.

The entire combat sequence with multiple enemies felt fluent through and through, like watching a movie. It's not disjointed, but all connected. With consequences for what you do. Like when Joel uses someone as a human shield, the others will back down and throw threats at you.

In the end, this one demonstration was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I'm in love with this game, and I want to have its babies.
