tHop - Scott Pilgrim vs The World

tHop - Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

One man stands alone. One man must face an army of seven to be victorious and rightfully claim his prize. This, is Scott Pilgrim and he is against The World. And he, just got Trailer Hopped.

Michael Cera stars in this movie as the young man who has just found the love of his life. He’s the stereotype come to life; a slacker, jobless and guitarist for a garage band. One day his eyes lock with the beautiful Ramona Flowers, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Right off the bat he falls in love with her and tries his best to win her heart. Once he manages to do so however, he finds himself … in the wrong castle. One of Ramona’s evil ex-boyfriends comes along and tells him that in order for him to get the princess, he must go through seven castles. Seven Evil Ex-Boyfriends await him and will challenge him to a fight. In order to win, he has to defeat them. And in the end, he will truly have earned the right to be Ramona’s boyfriend.
The movie has some impressive names behind it, including Michael Cera, Chris Evans and Brandon Routh. The Director of this movie isn’t green behind the ears either as he has directed some great movies like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and will be directing Ant-Man.
Based off of the comic book series, this movie has a lot to live up to. Fans all over the world are eagerly anticipating this movie, or are eagerly waiting to smash it in to the ground alongside the rest of the comic book adaptations that sucked. Either way, the movie has to bring it’s A-game in order to win our hearts, much like Scott is going to have to do.

Personally I haven’t read the comics yet. Mostly because I’ve never heard of the series before the trailer surfaced. That’s credited due to the fact that Belgium has little to no involvement in the comic book world, only having distributors in the Netherlands and one, maybe two places that sell them first hand. Still, even without knowing it beforehand, I still thought that this trailer was the most epic one I’ve seen since The Expendables. It was funny, action packed and visually very impressive. One thing that I’ve seen and that I love is that the movie seems to bring comic book style visuals to the screen, like Adam West’s Batman only a lot more worked out and … well, better placed than just punches and stuff.
In the end, this is the kind of movie that could really make my year. There have been and there’s going to be a lot of movies that will be en par with Inglorious Basterds and Avatar, but it’s movies like this that truly finish it off with style.
