PSN Debacle - Sony possibly accountable for $24 billion

Analysts. Love em or hate em, they do tend to paint a general picture quite well. In light of the breach of security, analysts began working with the situation and came up with a rather grave number. If the worst case scenario comes to pass, Sony might be down 24 billion dollars.

A research firm called The Ponemon Institute had studied credit-card hacks before. They then estimated that per breached account, Sony could be paying around 318 dollars. Seeing as PSN has around 22 million members, the numbers add up rather quickly.

Not only this, but Sony could be facing charges from governments all over the world, including a 500.000 pound fine from the U.K.
If you ask me, this is all just the start. PSN isn't the only service of its kind. There's also Steam and XBLA. Both of these are equally as hackable as PSN. Meaning that indie developers might be out of business permanently if those two go down. Right now, indie developers have been missing a week's worth of income. Not to mention the losses they'll have in the future because of the loss of faith in PSN.
