PSN Debacle - Sony hit with class action lawsuit

It seems it isn't a slow news day for Sony. Things have been really going downhill for the company. Things started with the lawsuit they filed against the hacker known as GeoHot. They brought upon them the vengeance of online justice seekers: Anonymous. However, once Anonymous saw they were hurting the PSN userbase, they backed off.
After this, the PSN database got breached and a hacker got away with all of the information, credit-card numbers included. Anonymous already came forward stating that AnonOps is not behind this and do not support whoever is behind it. Several American banks have already been informed, making it easier if any legal issues arise.

Now, the Rothken law firm has filed a federal class action lawsuit against Sony. This particular lawsuit is to collect funds to compensate users to change their password and cancel their credit cards.

"Sony’s breach of its customers’ trust is staggering," said Rothken co-counsel J.R. Parker, in a statement. "Sony promised its customers that their information would be kept private. One would think that a large multinational corporation like Sony has strong protective measures in place to prevent the unauthorized disclosure of personal information, including credit card information. Apparently, Sony doesn't."

They filed this complaint on behalf of one Kristopher Johns and, you know, the 75 million people that also have a PSN account. Their reason for this is that they feel Sony was incapable of putting up the proper measurements to protect their database, and that they violated the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.

This was something that we all had seen coming. You can't have someone go wrong this massively without there being consequences. Whilst it remains to be seen if Sony truly was negligent, we surely can not deny that this is a necessity. Sony is a giant, they can probably handle it. This will be a good message to Microsoft and Valve to tighten security on their databases, since they are just as much at risk. Truth is, Sony just lost the Russian Roulette on this one.
