tHop - Resident Evil: Afterlife

Trailer Hopping the Resident Evil: Afterlife trailer is a more difficult task than you would believe at first. I mean, the entertainment is greatly divided when it comes to this series. Ever since the first installment, the live action series turned out to be more action-horror than survival-horror. And when Apocalypse came along, it was more than obvious that the game only borrows names and looks to the movie franchise. As the movies tend to give diddly squat about the already established storyline. Or even the feeling of the games. So, that is why it is so difficult to announce this movie. But, let’s start at the beginning, ladies and gentlemen: The trailer -

By the time that the credits of the third movie ended, it was quite clear that whatever was next, would never be Resident Evil. It was gone and over by that point. The tiniest shimmer of hope had faded in to the darkness of whence it came. Resident Evil was now dead. Now it’s just: Pretty looking zombie action movie number 541.
The trailer is pretty much what I expected it to be pretty much. Save for the 3D part. Truth be told, that might be the only saving grace for the movie. I mean, it’s not like there’s going to be anything original about this movie. There’s even this brand new zombie type there. The Split mouth ones. Unfortunately, Blade II beat them to this one only in vampire form. At first I thought that this was an RE/Blade crossover. That would have been cool though. Although it would feel like that Star trek/X-men crossover. When watching this trailer, be sure to expect lots of action and no Resident Evil. Even though they keep on tossing RE things in there to throw us off.

I’d like to stress it for you guys that when you go and see this movie, you’d best not think to much about it and think you’re actually watching a random zombie movie and not an adaptation of one of the best franchises on any console. Put your mind to zero, bring friends and booze and just watch it. If it helps, imagine that it’s actually a brand new Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode. Just don’t think that it’s a Resident Evil movie. Sure, you’ll see Wesker and zombies and a few other big names from the game, but it’s all a really fucking big coincidence.
Because in the end, this looks like a pretty good action flick. A dumb, no brains action flick with zombies.
