tHop before: Bad Boys 3

THop before: Bad Boys 3

Right, so, there haven’t been many trailers for me to hop over lately so I decided to talk about news instead. Before you read on then, I’d like for you to read this little article over at comingsoon.net.

Let’s get a couple things out of the way first, before I begin talking about Bad Boys 3.  First of all, Michael Bay is en par with Uwe Boll when it comes to translating material to the movie screen. Not only that, most of his original work is as god awful as his translations. Just look at Armageddon for that last statement. For an adaptation, you need to look no further than the franchise he’s going to expand before Bad Boys, namely, Transformers. The first one was at least acceptable in a sense. You knew what you were going to be seeing from the moment you stepped in to that theater. Namely, Not Transformers. Sure, there might be big assed robots in there somewhere, but the only thing they have in common with the Transformers are the names. For the rest, the movie delivered. It had action, a piss poor effort at humor which grows on you like fungus and at least some talented performances. Jon Voight for example. That man is a living legend. However, this was a first movie in the franchise. Which means that because of its success, Bay was allowed to pull all the stops. What was wrong with the first movie was blown out of proportions in the second. And I do mean blown out of proportions. That movie was horrendous at best.

And then there are those fews movies that just seem to click. It’s everything what you expected and for the good, for a change. The two Bad Boys movies belong on that short list that just click. These movies are where the Bay formula really shine. Namely what I like to call: fun and fast movies. Falling in the same category for me are movies like Shoot ‘em up, Men in Black 2, Mission Impossible 3 and other movies like them. Some of them  might be mediocre, some good and some awesome. But they all have in common that they are just plain fun to watch and are over before you know it. They don’t overstay their welcome. All they do is entertain you and that’s that. This is exactly what Bad Boys does. It never really drags, the action is awesome, the humor is acceptable and in plenty and all in all you leave entertained.
Which is why I think that Bad Boys 3 will be a great movie and why this is such great news. Michael Bay has that franchise down. If he doesn’t screw it up like he did with Transformers 2 (OH DEAR SWEET MOTHER OF MARY DID HE SCREW THAT MOVIE UP), this movie might have a chance. And if Bad Boys 3 is successful, even more so than Bayformers, then maybe he’ll make more movies like Bad Boys and less Transformers … I can only hope.
Also, those of you that are saying that I’m spewing out nonsense and that Bad Boys sucked. Especially 2. Then you have to remember that I just switch off my brain and watch them. Which is doable, unlike Transformers 2 where my brain kick started 5 minutes in to yell and go in to a stupendous rage at how god-awful it was.
