Captain America is a character in the Marvel universe known for hitting Herr Hitler straight on the jaw. The man is an icon in the comic world, universally recognized by anyone who has dabbled in the American superhero Comic Book world.
Whilst there have been attempts to bring the man to the big screen, none were any good. Not even Reb Brown could save his adaptations from the pits of adaptation hell.
However, with the latest years of superhero awesomeness on screen, people had hope instead of disgust. With movies like Spider-man and Iron Man before it, Captain America was destined for greatness.
After a meager and disappointing Super Bowl trailer, we were kept in the dark on the Captain, our Captain. Footage started to come out of the woodwork in regards to the trailer. Yes, we were given footage of the trailer. Ridiculous, I know. Have no fear however because the deal is finally here!
The trailer shows a story familiar to the ears. We are following a young man named Steve Rodgers, who was deemed unfit to join the military. However, he is still given a chance and is allowed to volunteer for Project: Rebirth. One super duper power jolt later, Captain America is born and he goes out with his partner, Bucky Barnes, to fight the Nazi's during World War II, the era they live in. Not only that, but they find themselves facing the Red Skull, a formidable foe indeed.
Whilst the original trailer is rather lackluster, this one provides a whole deal more. Although not as much action was shown as we'd have preferred. Still, it was a trailer that showcased an engaging story with lighter elements to it, as we have come to expect from a Marvel comic adaptation.
The movie stars Chris Evans as the Cap, from Fantastic Four fame, who is giving a familiar performance wrapped in a new kind of performance that could easily a hundred times better than in those movies.
Staring alongside him are Tommy Lee Jones as Colonel Chester Phillips, Hugo Weaving as Red Skull, Neill McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan and Samuel L. Motherfucking Jackson reprises his role as Nick Fury.
A list of actors I am particularly fond of, if I do say so myself.
Sitting in the director's chair is Joe Johnston, director of such movies as Hidalgo, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Honey, I shrunk the kids and The Rocketeer. Oh and Jurassic Park III, Jumanji and The Wolfman. But those we can forgive, right?
This is promising to be the best comic book adaptation ever created. Though it's going to have to put in a LOT of effort to surpass The Dark Knight.
This has been Puddle Jumper with another Trailer Hop, see you later!
