Syndicate Trailer
In 1993, Bullfrog Productions started a series of games that would eventually prove to be cult classics. It's a series of isometric science fiction computer games. The original installment was playable on the Amiga and PC whilst it's sequel was a game for the PC and the Playstation.
Taking over the reigns to the franchise is Starbreeze Studios and the publisher Electronic Arts. From the start, the fans were outraged at the fact that they were essentially taking Syndicate on the same path as X-Com, another rebooted franchise. They were going to turn it in to a First Person Shooter.
Following this trailer however, it's very safe to assume that this isn't going to be a half-baked job. On its own merits, this is by far one of the best trailers I've seen this year. It got the blood pumping, it set up an interesting world and it created an action filled yet dark atmosphere.
"Set in 2069, Syndicate takes players into a dark, Machiavellian world run without government oversight with many syndicates vying for total dominance of their local market place. With no one to question their intentions or actions, three mega corporations — Eurocorp, Cayman Global, and Aspari — are at the forefront of this brutal war for control of the pivotal American market.
In the world of Syndicate, everything is digitally connected, including the people. Players aren’t limited to the weapons in their hands. Through the DART 6 bio-chip technology implanted in their head, players can slow down time and breach the digital world around them to take down their foes using a variety of upgradable hacking mechanics.
Syndicate’s blend of fast-paced, futuristic, action shooter settings and story combined with innovative chip breach gameplay instantly immerses players in a unique digital world."
One comparison I did make whilst watching this trailer is to Deus Ex: Human Revolution, where augmentation is part of the futuristic setting as well. Although, whilst Deus Ex focusses more on the stealth aspects of the genre (Bossfights not included, obviously. Outsourcing jerks.), this game seems to focus more on the adrenaline producing side, much like Modern Warfare, or more to the setting: Crisis.
Color me intrigued.
