DMC Gameplay Demo
DMC: Devil May Cry is a Ninja Theory developed reboot of the beloved hack and slash franchise. Garnering much heat after the first trailer was shown, the game was heralded as being the end of DMC. Mainly because they felt that Ninja Theory took what made the main character, Dante, himself, and they tossed it all aside. Dante is a well dressed badass with a giant sword. This new Dante was a shabbily dressed emo who smokes cigarettes. He now also, entirely coincidentally, mind you, looked like the Chief of Design: Tameem Antoniades. This is what enraged the fans of the series the most. Comparisons were even made to the extremely despised character of the Twilight movie series, Edward Cullen.
Now we have a full gameplay demo as shown in the 2011 Tokyo Game Show. The video showed that Ninja Theory listened to the fans and they changed Dante's appearance. Whilst not significantly, they did add some muscle and changed his facial features to at least resemble a younger version of Dante with shorter, albeit black hair (which has also been given a slight make-over). However, we already know Dante's white hair is making a return in some level, so all is well with the fans in that regard. When it comes to Dante's attire, they now resemble the clothes worn by Nero from Devil May Cry 4, which is a massive improvement as well. All in all, an incredible advancement if you ask me.
Gameplaywise however, the trailer does show that they haven't gone far beyond the gameplay established in previous installments, which makes me wonder why this reboot was even necessary. Still, that doesn't mean this game could be incredibly fun to play, more so with the old Dante seeping back in to the new one.
DMC is set to be released sometime in 2012 for the PS3 and the 360.
