Street Fighter x Tekken

It's real folks, and I can not believe that this is actually happening. Comic Con is now the proud owner of the first reveal of a game that really shouldn't exist.

Street Fighter is a fast paced fighting game where two opponents lash out at each other using fast techniques, quick jumps, supernatural abilities and a string of very complicated combos that could very well be accomplished by placing fist A on controller B and mashing it like a lunatic.

Tekken is more of a slower action game with stiffer controls and stiffer movements of the characters themselves. It's a more technique oriented fighter where the player can't just mash buttons and expect to win. Because that is rarely the case if you do.

To put it bluntly, Tekken is Gran Turismo and Street Fighter is Crash Team Racing. (DISC: this is just an example. It is not how I really feel about both franchises) They don't mingle all to well and it would require specific and very detailed tweaks to the design of both games, creating a whole new game altogether that just happens to star the characters from both series.

If you look at it from that perspective, that it's a new IP starring previously established characters, then it's not a bad idea. A matchup that's been highly anticipated by many. Kind of like how they treated Heihachi in Soul Calibur. But, if they try to hard to really make it SF versus Tekken by implementing gameplay elements from said franchises, then we have a serious problem on our hands.
