Tomb Raider Reboot in GI

Photobucket

The Tomb Raider franchise has been less than stellar in it’s last 3D adventure where Lara Croft was continuing the adventure started in Tomb Raider Legend. Between these two installments was a title paying homage to the original game, serving as a remake of the original game and another entry in the Legend universe. However, it became quite clear that the series was going the same route as it’s PS1 brethren. Is Game Informer about to bring information to the world that the fans have been crying out for, for years?

GameInformer has released the above image, which is the cover image of the January issue. It shows a Lara Croft looking a little bit under the weather, and a lot younger than we are used to. Looking at it we come to see just how much the franchise has evolved, and what direction Crystal Dynamics is pushing it towards. Serving as yet another reboot of the series, the game just known as Tomb Raider will be Lara’s first adventure.

“In our world-exclusive cover story, we uncover a brand-new Lara Croft. Rebooting the Tomb Raider franchise through an origin story wasn’t so much a choice as an act of necessity, according to Crystal Dynamics. Drastic measures were needed. To build an entirely fresh Lara – a culturally relevant hero worth of the attention that once came so effortlessly – they must break her first. In this new adventure – simply titled Tomb Raider – a younger and inexperienced Lara Croft must endure both physical and emotional trauma to survive.”

It’s a very interesting tour to take with the franchise. Something new is what this franchise needed. Which is just what Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light proved. Both the Eidos universe and the Crystal Dynamics universe both had everything set in stone of what her story is and how she is. By rebooting the series yet again, and massively upgrading the looks, CD has managed to bring back hope for many of the fans.

I for one am very interested in seeing more of this game. Tomb Raider has been in my heart for many years as it was the first game I had on the PS1. Plus, I also spend many hours with my family playing through these games. Let’s just hope that this reboot can honor these precious memories.
